    What Is Transferology?

    What it actually is

Transferology is a free website that answers one question: will my classes transfer? You type in the classes you've taken or plan to take, and it shows you how those same classes have transferred at hundreds of other colleges. Think of it as a giant lookup tool for transfer credit.

It's a solid gut check. But a gut check is all it is. If you want the actual answer to "what should I be taking," you can just use a website like Pipeline that builds your whole schedule around your major and your target school, so you're not guessing from a credit lookup. Or if you want to poke around Transferology yourself first, here's how it works.

    How it works

You add your courses to a list. Then you pick a school you might transfer to, and Transferology shows you a match report. Matches are classes that school has accepted for credit before. Misses are the ones it hasn't. It pulls from 400+ schools, and the info comes from the schools themselves, so it's a real signal, not a guess. If you'd rather skip the guesswork, here's how to transfer from a community college to a UC without piecing it together yourself.

    Where it falls short

Two things to know. First, it shows history, not a promise. A class transferring before doesn't guarantee it transfers when you apply. The school always makes the final call.

Second, it tells you if a class counts, but never what classes you actually need for your major, in what order. And that's the part that actually decides whether you transfer on time. Most people who take an extra year didn't get blocked by one bad class, they just never had a real plan. That's the whole reason people use something like Pipeline instead of piecing it together. It just hands you the plan.

    The bottom line

Transferology is a handy free tool for a quick "will my classes count" check, especially across different states. Just remember it shows past history, not a guarantee, and it won't build your schedule for you. Use it to explore, then get an actual plan around your major before you bank on anything.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Transferology free?

Yes. You make an account with an email, add the classes you've taken or plan to take, and it shows you how those credits have transferred at other schools. It doesn't cost anything.

    Is Transferology accurate?

It's accurate about the past, not the future. It shows how a course has transferred before, based on info each school provides. It doesn't promise the same when you apply. The school you transfer to decides your final credit, so treat it as a strong hint, not a sure thing.

Will Transferology tell me which classes to take?

Not really. It tells you if a class has transferred somewhere, but not which classes you should take for your major, in what order, to transfer on time. That's the part that actually decides if you transfer in two years or four, and it's what a tool like Pipeline is built to hand you.
